About Us
Nicholls Colton and Partners was established in 1965 by R. A. Nicholls and J. B. Colton. The Company was set up as a Civil Engineering Consultancy providing independent materials testing and advisory services to Consulting Engineers, Contractors, Quarry Operators and others.
The Company’s first offices and laboratory were in part of a rope works in Crafton Street, Leicester.
Over the first few years the Company’s activities were expanded to cover ground investigation, on-site materials testing and inspection of off-site fabrication and manufacture of construction units in aluminium, precast concrete etc. These areas of activity broadened the Company’s client base to include Structural Engineers, Architects, Builders, Developers, Local Authorities, Utilities and Government Departments.
In 1973 the premises in Crafton Street were vacated and the Company transferred to new premises in Harding Street, Leicester.
By 1983, the Company had outgrown the Harding Street premises. A new laboratory was built on an adjoining site and the existing laboratory was refurbished for use as offices.
Alex Warwick and Ian Elliot became joint Managing Directors of Nicholls Colton & Partners in December 2005 both having been with the firm almost 20 years. Alex is a Chartered Engineer and Registered SiLC and responsible for the geotechnical department. Ian is responsible for the testing department.
Nicholls Colton Geotechnical (NCG) acts as a consultant or specialist contractor providing a comprehensive ground investigation, geotechnical and geo-environmental consultancy service to the construction industry.
Nicholls Colton Testing (NCT) provides an independent pavement and structures sampling, testing, investigation and advisory service to the construction industry.
Nicholls Colton Analytical (NCA) was formed in July 2007 to complement the existing divisions of NCG and NCT. NCA offers the following services: contaminated land analysis, laboratory testing of asphalt, aggregates, concrete and soil, and insitu sampling and testing of asphalt, soil and concrete.
